Alejandro Hornik, MD
Dr. Alejandro Hornik is a U.S.-trained neurologist with more than 20 years of medical experience. He completed his neurology residency at Loyola University Medical Center in Chicago, where he served as Chief Resident and earned the Frank A. Rubino Clinical Neurology Award for excellence in patient care and education. He then completed a two-year fellowship in Critical Care Neurology and Stroke at the University of Chicago, later joining the faculty as a Clinical Associate in the Neurocritical Care Unit for three years.
For over a decade, Dr. Hornik developed and directed the Neuroscience Department and Stroke Network for a major Southern Illinois health system, advancing access to expert neurological and neurosurgical care across Southern Illinois and extending that expertise to communities in Western Kentucky.
Dr. Hornik began his medical journey at the Universidad Austral School of Medicine in Argentina, where he earned his medical degree before relocating to the United States for his residency and fellowship training.
Today, he is dedicated to providing the highest level of neurological care to the Southern Illinois community, blending advanced expertise with a compassionate, patient-centered approach. In his role as Medical Director of Hornik Neuroscience Associates, Dr. Hornik leads a team that delivers inpatient neurological services to hospitals across Southern Illinois and Western Kentucky.
Ashley Hornik, NP
Ashley Hornik is a board-certified family nurse practitioner, U.S. Navy veteran, and co-founder of Hornik Neuroscience Associates. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in English from Auburn University, followed by her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), and her Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Cincinnati.
Ashley began her nursing career in the Neuro Intensive Care Unit at UAB, later joining the University of Chicago, where she continued her focus on neurocritical care. Her service as a U.S. Navy officer further expanded her expertise, providing valuable experience in critical care trauma.
With more than 13 years of neurological experience—including five years in neurocritical care and stroke and eight years dedicated to hospital neurology, neurocritical care, and clinical neurological surgery—Ashley delivers advanced inpatient & outpatient neurological care throughout Southern Illinois. She is recognized for combining deep clinical expertise with a compassionate, patient-centered approach.
Chelsey Davis, RDH, MBA
Chelsey is the Vice President of Operations for Hornik Neuroscience Associates. Her career is a unique example of full-spectrum growth within the neuroscience field—beginning as an entry-level clerk, advancing to Certified Medical Assistant, and moving into inpatient and outpatient navigation roles.
She earned her Master of Business Administration from Western Governors University, with a special focus on healthcare management—a degree she completed while steadily advancing through the ranks of a neuroscience service line. She later became Practice Manager of a large regional neuroscience practice, gaining first-hand knowledge of every operational step, from front-line patient contact to high-level administrative leadership. This unique tenure equips her to guide Hornik Neuroscience Associates with a comprehensive perspective on patient care, operational efficiency, and growth strategy, bringing unmatched experience in neuroscience service management to the Southern Illinois region.
Her years as a neuro inpatient navigator provided her with an in-depth understanding of the inpatient neurology team’s workflows and the hospital care patients receive, allowing her to anticipate patient needs with precision and empathy.
Chelsey also holds a Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene from Southern Illinois University, further broadening her understanding of patient care and clinical operations.
Haley Smith, LPN
Haley Smith is a Licensed Practical Nurse with more than three years of dedicated experience in neurosciences. She began her career at the Brain and Spine Institute in Carbondale, IL, where she worked her way up from Medical Receptionist to Medical Assistant, and eventually to her current role as an LPN.
Haley earned her Licensed Practical Nurse certificate from John A. Logan College and is currently enrolled in the accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing program at Southern Illinois University. Her professional path has provided her with hands-on experience in both the front-line coordination of patient care and direct clinical support, giving her a strong foundation in the full spectrum of neuroscience services.
Haley has developed extensive expertise in managing the insurance approval process for advanced neuroscience treatments, including new medications that are often restricted by insurers. She is skilled at integrating the patient’s care plan with the pharmacy team to ensure that patients receive timely access to their prescribed therapies.
Molly Smith
Molly Smith is the Patient Services Specialist at Hornik Neuroscience Associates, where she plays a vital role in ensuring the practice remains accessible and efficient for patients and referring providers. She brings strong skills in organization, communication, and patient coordination, developed through her background in customer service and administrative support.
At HNA, Molly is responsible for maintaining an organized office schedule, supporting smooth patient flow, and making sure primary care providers receive timely updates on referrals. Her hard work, reliability, and commitment to HNA’s mission make her an essential member of the team.
Molly is especially recognized for her attention to detail in managing patient care processes, helping to minimize barriers so patients can access the neurological care they need in a timely manner.
